Melissa Phillips

Northern California-based singer-songwriter Melissa Phillips is known for her compelling vocals, nuanced and intimate performances, and candid song craft. Delivering on the promise of her stripped down live debut, (Fits & Starts, 2012), her sophomore release, Both Ways, finds Phillips embracing a bigger sound.

A theme quickly developed as we listened to the album—there is a tactile nature to the physical items and the relationships we leave behind. To reflect and echo that theme, it became important to create custom artwork the old-fashioned way—using our hands. Each layer of the album artwork was carefully curated and photographed.

From wallpaper patterns to spackling paste and paint, each layer was created to tell a visual history of the memories we leave behind.
